Family: Gelastocoridae

Toad Bugs

These photos supplement pages 97-103 of the Guide to Aquatic Invertebrates of the Upper Midwest. Information on the biology of Gelastocoridae can be found on page 98. Gelastocoridae are easy to distinguish from other Hemiptera by their general body shape and bulging eyes. They look remarkable similar to small toads and even hop along the shoreline.
