Family: Gyrinidae Adults

Whirligig Beetles

These photos supplement pages 145-158 of the Guide to Aquatic Invertebrates of the Upper Midwest. Information on the biology of Gyrinidae can be found on page 154. Gyrinidae adults look like other water beetles except for their eyes are visible both dorsally and ventrally. Gyrinidae adults can get confused with Dytiscidae and Hydrophilidae adults. Click to see the Gyrinidae larvae page.
